Two curved panes, one weighing 850 kg and the other 950,have been installed in a boutique in the city of Luxembourg using the special Heavydrive assembly systems. The very narrow access in the pedestrian zone, where the job site had to be additionally cordoned off to passers-by for safety reasons, made for difficult conditions.
The panes were installed using the VSG 950 KR Heavydrive vacuum suction system in combination with the VSG 2000 Konter counterweight beam. The vacuum suction system was developed specifically for convex and concave panes and is rated for a load of 950 kg. The assembly systems were attached directly to the mobile crane. Guiding the Heavydrive counterweight beam with great precision by radio remote control, the operator was able to keep the weight of the two glass elements in perfect balance. The lifting beam also ensured that the panes were safely moved below the protruding part of the building. “Even our large systems are so compact and flexible that they can be used in confined spaces and to reliably transport panes under tricky conditions. We are delighted to have been able to impress our installation partners on the job site with our systems and services yet again”, says Günter Übelacker, Managing Director of Heavydrive.
It took just half a day for the heavy, curved insulated glass panes to be safely positioned at the rounded corner of the building’s ground and upper floors.
